Awards/Commissions


  1. -Prizewinner in the first Hilliard Ensemble Composition Award. His work ‘Incantation’ was recorded by the Hilliard Ensemble for ECM New Series.

- In 1998 Paul was invited by the Hilliard Ensemble to be the Composer in Residence at their Summerschool in Cambridge.

- Prizewinner for his piano duo ‘Eris’ premiered by the Tong-Wasegawa duo.

- ‘Chamber Concerto’ was one of 6 shortlisted works for the Luxembourg Sinfonietta International Composition Prize for May 2003 and won the special prize.

- As director of his own ensemble Harmonie Band, he has been active as a composer for silent films and has received commissions from many UK film festivals as well as from the ‘Giornate del Cinema Muto’ in Italy.

- In 2007, he received a commission from the Era New Horizon Film Festival in Wroclaw Poland for a new score for Carl Dreyer’s ‘The Passion of Joan of Arc’ that was premiered at the Wroclaw Opera house on July 28th performed by HarmonieBand and the Hilliard Ensemble. (See YouTube Below)

- Winner of the Piero Pezze prize in the 'Citta di Udine' International Composers Contest. The work 'A Night in the Palace of Reason' was performed and recorded in Udine in October 2008.

Biography

Paul Robinson is a composer who has written in most contemporary genres, including Ballet, Orchestral, Film and Contemporary Chamber Music. His performing ensemble HarmonieBand have performed many of his scores to silent films in major Art Centres and Cinemas in the UK and Europe.

He has received several prizes for composition including a joint winner prize for the Tong Hasegawa Piano Duo competition, the Special Prize for the Luxembourg Sinfonietta International Composers Competition, a joint prize in the first Hilliard Ensemble Composers competition and, most recently, the Pierro Pezze Prize in the International composers competition 'Citta di Udine'

He has received numerous commissions from professional performing ensembles,including the Northern Sinfonia, Scottish Ballet, the Hilliard Ensemble and the London Schools Symphony Orchestra.


He teaches at the Royal College of Music, Goldsmith’s College and Sussex University. He is Composer in Association at Christ’s Hospital School in Horsham Sussex
